“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.”
― Paulo Coelho, Brida
There have been many studies that prove drinking wine is beneficial for your health. Red wine is known to have antioxidants with heart-healthy benefits and moderate drinkers of wine have a lower risk of heart disease. We here at Pacific Place are, of course, dedicated to improving our health so naturally we visited our favorite wine retail space and bar, Sixth Avenue Wine Seller, to have a very heart-healthy evening.
While we may not be professional wine tasters, we are professional wine enjoyers, and of the incredible collection of both local and international wines available at Sixth Avenue Wine Seller. Here were some of our favorites.
Of the white wines, the Pratsch Gruner Veltliner from Weinviertel, Austria is our number one pick. The apple and peach notes are incredibly light and refreshing. It’s the perfect balance between not too sweet and not too dry and for better or for worse, we can see ourselves drinking this delicious wine with dinner. A lot of it.
The Le Domaine De Menard (Colombard/Ugni) from Cotes de Gascogne, France was next on our list of favorites. It’s definitely more of a dessert wine, much sweeter with notes of pear, nectarine, and lime. Make sure to swirl your glass and take a deep breath. The smell alone is good enough to have you swear off any other dessert wine out there.
From Willamette, Oregon we tried the Cristom Pinot Gris. It was the driest of the three we tried, but there were still pear and citrus notes that paired perfectly with hints of spice. We love that it’s so delicious and we love that it’s local!
The Helix Syrah from Columbia Valley, Washington was not only our favorite red wine of the night, but our favorite overall. It has a smokiness and elusive sexiness to it that we can’t quite put our fingers on, but we’ll keep drinking until we find out!
Sparkman Cellars Wilderness Red Blend is also from Columbia Valley, Washington and it’s a little bit of peppery, and a whole lot of perfect. If the fact that Sparkman was recently recognized by Wine and Spirits Publication as one of the top 100 wineries in the world isn’t enough to convince you to try this delicious red blend, consider the fact that Sixth Avenue Wine Seller will donate 10% of the proceeds from this bottle to preserve the wilderness.
The bark of the Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa County, California is perfect for it’s bite. The smoky spices are perfectly blended with notes of red cherry and blackberry making it a perfect choice for anyone who loves strong flavors in strong wine.
There’s no holiday that comes with as much pressure as Valentine’s Day. You can brush it off as a “Hallmark” holiday all you want, but that doesn’t mean you can fully escape the expectations attached to it. If the drugstore chocolates and flowers aren’t cutting it anymore, you’re in the right place. We here at Pacific Place put together a game plan for your Valentine’s Day to make sure everyone has a good time no matter what stage of the relationship you’re in.
Keep it casual by first taking her/him to a movie! Endless Love is a romantic drama about the forbidden love between David (Alex Pettyfer) and Jade (Gabriella Wilde). If that sounds too sappy, check out the romantic comedy, That Awkward Moment starring Zac Efron. Then, after the movie, head right next door to Johnny Rockets for some good food! One milkshake, two straws = too cute!
If you’ve been dating a while…
Spice things up with the bold flavors of Mexico Cantina y Cocina! The delicious food will have you feeling “muy caliente” despite the cold Seattle weather, and the margaritas will make you think you’re at a beach on a tropical vacation. Who says tequila can’t be romantic?
Rejoice in Romance
For the most romantic dining experience, try Il Fornaio. Every dish is rich and flavorful and there is a great selection of wine to choose from too. If that isn’t enough, the beautiful décor creates an ambiance second to none. After dinner, take a stroll through Seattle and soak in the sights of the city (and your date).
Valentine’s Day can be a very hard holiday to shop for. Although chocolates and flowers are the traditional go-to gift, something a little more personable and special can be nice. So whether you’re shopping for your wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, or just a friend, here are a few alternative gifts we love right now from Pacific Place! With choices for every budget, we hope we can help make the hunt for the best Valentine’s Day gift a little bit easier.
Something Silver has a great collection of Valentine’s Day pieces, including infinites, hearts, and more. Our favorite is the sterling silver XOXO ring. It’s the quintessential piece of jewelry that goes well with just about anything. The best part is that it won’t make a big dent in your wallet!
The Valentine’s Day Bombshell Collection from Victoria’s Secret will make your special someone feel pampered and beautiful. Our favorite is the ‘Night Fragrance Mist’, the sensual and feminine mix of floral and warmth.
Every girl loves lululemon, and every girl will love their ‘Nice Asana Jacket’. The signature Luon fabric makes this jacket the coziest zip-up to work-out in, or to wear on a daily basis. It’s so comfortable and looks even better on!

If you feel like splurging extra on your man this year, the Bose ‘QuietComfort’ noise-cancelling headphones are absolutely awesome. With noise cancelling, amazing sound and a sleek style, you can’t go wrong with these.
One of the best things that come with a new year is the motivation to start fresh. Each year we reminisce about the prior one and think about how to be better in the year to come. One thing consistently on our list of resolutions time after time is to get healthier!
But there’s no denying that New Year’s resolutions can be hard to keep. Come January 29th (or 30th or 31st…), we already know shopping is going to seem so much better than going to the gym. But not to worry! Here are a few ways Pacific Place is looking to make 2014 your healthiest year yet!
One easy and delicious way to be healthier is to drink more green tea. Full of antioxidants and beneficial polyphenols, green tea has been shown to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, and type-2 diabetes. Teavana has a wide selection of green teas; their most popular being the Gyokuro Imperial. We can’t get enough of the rich and soothing flavor.
It seems like everyone and their mothers are juicing these days, and Williams-Sonoma has all the tools to meet your healthy juicing needs. Maybe you’re just looking for a way to get more vegetables into your diet. Or maybe you want to try to complete a juice cleanse. Either way, a juicer from Williams-Sonoma will have you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated in no time!
Take advantage of the winter season and incorporate skiing and snowboarding into your exercise regimen! The Downlight Jacket from Eddie Bauer, available for both men and women, will make sure you’re both stylish and warm as you take on the slopes.
Running will have you feeling good and lululemon will have you looking good while doing it. The Core ½ Zip for men, and the Base Runner ½ Zip for women are both made from Rulu fabric, specifically designed for runners to keep you warm.
And if nothing else, all those calories burnt while shopping have to count for something right? Happy 2014 from all of us at Pacific Place!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
While Mother Nature in the Pacific Northwest seems to struggle with the concept of an actual “White Christmas,” here at Pacific Place we take snow matters into our own hands. Every evening at 6 p.m., between November 29th and December 31st, we transform our atrium into an indoor snow globe! The snow flurries aren’t complete without an adorable snowflake wand. Since it is the season of giving, the wands are available for a $2 suggested donation and 100% of the proceeds benefit Seattle Children’s! We can’t wait to catch some snowflakes!
The snowfall is made possible this year by:
Oliver! at The 5th Avenue Theatre
A special thanks to our snowflake wand sponsors Sound Community Bank, Seattle Department of Transportation, Botanical Designs, ABM Security Services, PSR Mechanical, Seattle Building Maintenance, Schindler Elevator Corporation, Impark and SeQuential Pacific Biodiesel.
