Old Meets New in Ancestral Modern Exhibit
Now through September 2nd, Seattleites get to experience life through the perspective of Australia’s indigenous people. Where? At Seattle Art Museum, of course! SAM’s Ancestral Modern exhibit is now showcasing Australian Aboriginal art in a contemporary collection of over 100 artworks created in the last 40 years.
Museum visitors can really get lost in the vivid imagery of the Australian outback! Some of our favorite pieces include Dadu Minaral, a bronze sea turtle sculpture on decorative stilts, and Bush Hen Dreaming, a combination of swirling orange, white, brown and blue lines meticulously painted onto canvas. From the chaotic movement of hens through the bush, to the beautifully rugged desert rock formations, to ceremonial sea turtle feasts, Ancestral Modern took us on a journey through aboriginal life in the Australian Bush. Share with us your favorite pieces!
Don’t pass up the chance to learn more about one of the world’s oldest, and most artistically creative, people. Ancestral Modern: Australian Aboriginal Art from the Kaplan & Levi Collection is now on display in SAM’s Simonyi Special Exhibition Gallery.
